I seem to be having a case of 'temporary paralysis' from work again.

Of course, cleaning cars for 8 hours a day + another 45 minutes to walk home is a lot more exercise my body’s been used to recently. getting up in the morning is a bit tricky, especially when it feels like my body is basically strapped up with lead weights.

I’ll just drop this classic ‘dubbed Veedub here for a sec.

Last time I felt this was with my brief time at the Volkswagen job, even my left knee was sore from operating the clutch all day. It feels good to feel worn out after a long day, but not when it lingers for days on end, lactic acid is no joke. I’d be interested on how you folk deal with such issues.

I detail cars on the side on occasion and I can't imagine doing it every day. It must be exhausting. I'm definitely not built for that.

It’s an entry-level job into the automotive repair business, it pays the bills.

I’ve been going through something similar. Tired and achey all the time. I’ve been stressed out and drinking coffee like no tomorrow. Same thing about 2 years ago. 2 weeks off the caffeine actually helped immensely. Time to do it again. I guess I’m starting today.... Your post brought it to my attention.

Thank you for that.

Haven’t gotten to that point, but I can see it happening.

You started this fairly recently, right? If so, your body just isn’t used to the workload. Eat well, stay hydrated and get enough sleep and you’ll get through it and it will become easier.

Been doing all those, probably too soon to tell.

on the other hand, my mother insists I should spend a few minutes in her bathtub/Jacuzzi to loosen up.

Jacuzzi certainly wouldn’t hurt and yeah definitely give it some more time, you’ll be fine.

I’m 56. Got laid off last September. Went to work for Target until I can find other work. Walked about a mile each way plus another 3-5 miles a day while working. (Friggin stores are huge.) The only advice I can give you is try not to think about it.

I’m interested in detailing, and would like to do it as a summer job, maybe at a dealer or with a detailing company. Is there anything I need to know about this kind of work and how do I get into the business?

Ask local dealers or shops if they’ve got openings, talk to the managers if you can. I’m in it because I need to earn my own income, and not sit around. It’s often an entry point for mechanical work at said shops too. Connections also help. If you know someone who knows someone, etc..etc, ask them. despite my 14 months of experience in the field, I’m still ‘fresh meat’.
